The event committee makes an invitation to schools, civic groups and anyone in the larger community:

You’re welcome to take part, in the parade and then, at 10 a.m., when local veterans offer their annual reading of names at the Woods Road memorial. The ceremony is built around honoring any person from Solvay or Geddes who died in the service of their nation.

They were ordinary teenagers who, when called upon, achieved extraordinary success. Their stories include entering service with lifelong friends who during their first combat engagement were killed, one was  a hero who secured the Bridge at Remagen before being taken P.O.W. by the Germans and has shared his story of his escape, recipients of multiple Bronze Stars, a U.S. Marine bomb disposal specialist that cleared former Japanese-held islands in the Pacific, an individual that landed at Normandy and has 4battle stars on his European Campaign Medal, and numerous other examples of serving with honor, courage, and valor.

All are invited and encouraged to attend this free community event.
