Geddes Police Vehicle

The Geddes Police Department provides police services to the Geddes residents on a 24 hour a day basis.

The Patrol Division responds to all calls for police services, conducts crime prevention and suppression activities and fosters positive police community relations.

The Investigation Division follows up on all felony investigations, executes arrest warrants, apprehends fugitives and acts as a liaison with other agencies.

The Administrative Services Division processes and maintains arrest records, processes police reports and provides clerical support for the department.

Town of Geddes residents now have the ability to access our Active Warrant data base by clicking onto the linked web site. We are asking residents to assist the police department in locating these fugitives by contacting the Geddes Police Department if they can provide  information on the whereabouts of any of these individuals.



Accredited by the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Council:

The New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Council granted accreditation status to the Geddes Police Department in October of 2001.

The department was inspected in June of 2001 and found to be in compliance with all applicable standards. The inspection was a three-day event conducted by a three-person panel from around the state.

Geddes was the 87th police agency in the state to become accredited and the 12th in Onondaga County.

We were reassessed in July 2006 and were approved for reaccreditation status in September 2006 by the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Council. This will expire in October 2011.

Residential Home Checks

The Geddes Police Department is please to offer vacant home checks. if you are going on vacation, taking a long weekend or the house will be vacant for whatever reason, you can call us at 315-468-3283, Monday through Friday between 9AM until 4PM. Information will be gathered regarding contact person, lights on time, alarm system and general information to assist the officer that is checking in on the residence.


Town Code regarding hunting within Geddes boundaries

There is no hunting allowed in the Town of Geddes with any firearm or with bows. Below is the Town Code relative to hunting:

§ 110-9. Restrictions on discharging firearms and fireworks. [Amended 11-10-1980]

No person shall discharge any firearms as defined herein or explode or set off any firecrackers or other combustible material anywhere within the boundaries of the town, exclusive of the Village of Solvay, without the permission of the Town Board or written permission of the Supervisor. This section shall not apply to law enforcement officers lawfully engaged in law enforcement duties, or the discharge of weapons in self defense.

§ 110-2. Definitions.

As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:

FIREARM — Includes a shotgun, air gun, air pistol, spring gun or rifle, rifles and pistols of any caliber or any implement which impels with force a pellet or single projectile of any kind (i.e., bow and arrow, slingshot, crossbow, etc.).


Start a Neighborhood Watch Group

It has been proven that Neighborhood Watch works!

The Geddes Police Department supports Neighborhood Watch and encourages residents to start a group.

Westvale Neighborhood Watch Group Organized

A Neighborhood Watch Group has been formed in Geddes. The Westvale (originally called the Breakspear Road) Neighborhood Watch Group has been organized under the direction of Yvonne Conte and with the guidance of Russ Mitchell of Neighborhood Watch Groups of CNY, Inc.

The group meets at Robinson Memorial Church at the corner of Terry Road and Granger Road.

Winter Parking Regulations

Below is the Town Code regarding parking on town roads during the winter months:

§ 220-15. Overnight parking prohibited during winter months. [Added 1-9-2001 by L.L. No. 1-2001; amended 10-10-2006 by L.L. No. 1-2006] There shall be no parking on Town streets throughout the Town of Geddes from November 1 through April 1 from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Vehicles illegally parked in violation of this section are subject to being towed. In addition, every person who shall violate this section shall be subject to a fine of $25.


Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What do I do if lose a license plate, vehicle registration or driver’s license, or have license plates confiscated?

Answer:
Lost items need to be reported to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYS DMV) via the MV-78B form. One can be obtained from any officer or the Administrative Office during normal business hours.

License plates that are confiscated by the department may be returned once proper proof is shown from the NYS DMV. If plates cannot be returned to you, a form stating the date and the reason for confiscation will be given to you to present as proof to the NYS DMV.

Q:  Does the Geddes Police Department provide fingerprint services for the general public?

Answer
Yes. We print people for employment, including home day care providers, certain licenses, including securities, and for personal identification.

We cannot print for weapons permits.

You must call the administrative number and make an appointment.

Q:  How can I get a copy of a police report ?

Answer
The Town of Geddes Police Department Administration office is open 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Monday through Friday. Reports can be picked up anytime during these hours and cost $.25 a page.

A report can also be requested through the mail.
