Drainage inlets and storm sewers are for the collection and conveyance of stormwater.  Drainage inlets are not intended as a place to intentionally dump contaminants and other potential pollutants.

The following is a list of some contaminants frequently and illegally dumped into drainage inlets:

  • Paint
  • Oil
  • Grease
  • Gas
  • Fertilizer
  • Animal Waste
  • Pesticides
  • Concrete
  • Asphalt

If you suspect someone has illicitly discharged contaminants such as chemicals, construction materials, paint, or petroleum products to a storm sewer or roadway, please contact the Onondaga County Storm-Water Pollution Hotline at (315) 435-3157.  The hotline is manned 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
